My journey at Coventry University took an enriching turn when I joined the Coventry Indonesian Students Association (CISA) as an event team member. Here, I found myself collaborating with a wonderfully diverse team, united by a common goal: fostering a vibrant community for Indonesian students within Coventry. This wasn't just about planning events; it was about creating a space for connection and belonging.
Together, we held a series of engaging cultural events that celebrated our heritage. From welcoming gatherings in the park, complete with traditional Indonesian games and delicious pizza, to potluck parties with PhD students where we shared home-cooked meals and laughter that brought Indonesian students closer. These events weren't just fun, they were a way to build bridges and create a sense of community within Coventry.
One of our crowning achievements was a collaborative Iftar event held in association with the Warwick Indonesian Student Society and the Warwick Islam Society. This large-scale event saw us successfully welcoming and preparing meals for over 300 guests. It was a testament to the power of collaboration and fostered a spirit of unity across cultural and religious backgrounds.
This experience went far beyond just event planning. It was about developing valuable skills. Through brainstorming sessions and active participation in committee discussions, I honed my communication and coordination abilities. I learned the importance of delegation, ensuring tasks were distributed effectively. This involved securing necessities for the events, developing detailed run-downs, collaborating with other divisions on budgeting, and promoting the events to the wider community.
