This report aims to address the complex ethical issues concerning social media usage in the workplace, drawing on the Harvard Business Review case study "Should he be fired for that Facebook post?". The case illuminates the ethical dilemma faced by Downcity, a luxury car dealership chain, in navigating an employee's potentially harmful online conduct.
Here, I critically examine two potential solutions: issuing a written warning or terminating the employee. This analysis delves into stakeholder perspectives, legal considerations, and the nuanced advantages and disadvantages of each option. To inform the recommended course of action, I apply two ethical frameworks - utilitarianism and ethical egoism - ensuring a comprehensive and grounded evaluation.
Beyond its immediate purpose, this report serves as a valuable tool for sharpening critical thinking skills and making well-informed decisions on similar ethical dilemmas within the workplace context.
